  • Congressional Quarterly writes about a new package of tax incentives, including some for energy programs, sponsored by Sens. Max Baucus, D-Mont., and Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa. The statement from Baucus and Grassley notes the package includes extending credits for renewable electricity and refined coal production (see text here).
  • The New York Times reports on serious drought in Australia and the possible implications for a world facing climactic change.
  • Reuters covers the run-up to an international meeting in Paris at which developing nations object to possible curbs on greenhouse gases produced by industries such as steel or cement.
  • The Times looks at the possibility that air regulators in the San Francisco Bay Area may impose a greenhouse gas fee on businesses; see Climate Law Update story on this subject last month here.  
  • Nature publishes a book review in which a critic muses on parallels between Depression-era Civilian Conservation Corps and modern calls for the creation of new "green jobs" to address global warming (subscription required for full article). 
  • Vanity Fair examines the new  "Arctic oil rush" in an era of rising prices and shrinking ice caps, as well as the resulting competition among nations.
